The engineers in this zone use coding and programming in a variety of ways: One engineer makes an app that helps people park their cars around the world, another designs robots to help elderly people be independent, and another creating computer models of body parts. There’s also an engineer who develops a website for people who travel with their jobs and an engineer who is teaching computers to think for themselves.
Once upon a time codes were for sending secret messages between special agents. Now that coded computer programmes run, rule and create so much of the modern world, they’re still mostly hidden from view… Until now!
Engineers across Ireland are working on communication systems connecting companies around the world, researching powerful ways to make sense of huge data sets, and developing the websites you use everyday to inform/distract yourself. They might use coding skills to analyse the results of the Large Hadron Collider, or to model new fuel efficient engines, or to create the clever apps that live in your pocket… Whatever the field, these engineers will shed light on this critical part of our lives.
