The coolest project I have ever done is my Skull Radio. https://www.tog.ie/2015/05/project-skull-radio-box/ . It’s a device to listen to music without using your ears but your teeth.
I have shown the project off to thousands of people and they all have the same expression on their face when they try it. Pure amazement.

It works by sending vibrations via your teeth into your jawbone then into your inner ear. Its a strange sensation as you can’t tell where the sound is coming from.

The coolest invention I have ever done is probably a game that you can play with up to 4 friends. You can play it on a TV screen and it runs on a mini computer. Everyone controls a snake on the screen by means of their smartphones. It’s really fun to play cause everyone plays together on the same screen.

The most interesting project to me is a more serious one. It’s a system that aims to recognize people from visual data. That can be photos or other sensor data. This task is very easy for humans but it turns out to be very difficult for machines/computers which makes it a challenging and interesting project.

The robot I built at NASA was pretty cool. It was ultimately sent to Greenland and was used to measure the thickness of the ice there. This info is really useful for determining how fast the earth is heating up and its really hard to send people out to take these measurements.

The project I find coolest is one I’m currently working on. I’m developing a social robot that can interact with a human in a really effective way. It uses alot of artificial intelligence – specially adapted for social interaction. This has been my passion project for +3 years and its really cool because I’ve been working on it with really interesting people – artists, graphical designers, engineers and psychologists. I’m in Brazil right now building the head. We hope to test in in the University of Sao Paulo on Friday 🙂

My coolest project has been when volunteering for CoderDojo. We developed a ‘Balloon game’ where you click on a balloon to make it bigger until it explodes… but then I made it into a two player game and instead of clicking the balloon I used a ‘Makey Makey’ [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rfQqh7iCcOU] and connected it to a old computer fan so when the fan turned it was like clicking on the balloon.. then I set up a real bicycle pump (the big standup ones like this ) and pointed the nozzle in front of the computer fan. It was a race to pump the bicycle pump quick enough to get a balloon to explode on the screen!
